Amazon AWS marketplace transaction fees

AWS Transaction Fees

In January 2024, AWS Marketplace announced a reduction and standardization of seller listing fees, aiming to simplify the fee structure and enhance the seller experience.

The updated fees are as follows:

  • Public Subscriptions: Fees for software-as-a-service (SaaS) and AWS Data Exchange products are reduced to 3%.
  • Private Offers: Listing fees for software and data private offers are now tiered based on the total contract value (TCV):
    • Deals under $1 million TCV: 3% fee.
    • Deals between $1 million and under $10 million TCV: 2% fee.
    • Deals equal to or greater than $10 million TCV: 1.5% fee.
  • Renewals: Fees for renewing private offers for software and data are set at 1.5%.
  • Other Fees: Fees not specified above remain unchanged. For instance, professional services fees continue at 2.5%, and channel partner private offer (CPPO) transactions maintain a 0.5% uplift.

AWS Transaction Fee Examples

Here are some example scenarios illustrating how the AWS Marketplace transaction fees apply:

Scenario 1: Public SaaS Subscription

  • Product: A Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) application offered publicly on AWS Marketplace.Amazon Web Services, Inc.
  • Transaction Amount: $500,000.
  • Applicable Fee: Public SaaS subscriptions incur a 3% listing fee.
  • Fee Calculation: $500,000 × 3% = $15,000.
  • Outcome: The seller pays AWS a fee of $15,000 for this transaction.

Scenario 2: Private Offer for Software

  • Product: An Amazon Machine Image (AMI) offered through a private offer.
  • Total Contract Value (TCV): $5 million.
  • Applicable Fee: Private offers have tiered fees based on TCV:
    • Less than $1 million: 3%.
    • $1 million to less than $10 million: 2%.
    • $10 million or more: 1.5%.
  • Fee Calculation: $5,000,000 × 2% = $100,000.
  • Outcome: The seller pays AWS a fee of $100,000 for this private offer.

Scenario 3: Renewal of a Private Offer

  • Product: A data subscription service renewing a private offer.
  • Renewal Amount: $2 million.
  • Applicable Fee: Renewals of private offers are subject to a 1.5% fee.
  • Fee Calculation: $2,000,000 × 1.5% = $30,000.
  • Outcome: The seller pays AWS a fee of $30,000 for the renewal.

Scenario 4: Channel Partner Private Offer (CPPO)

  • Product: A SaaS application sold through a CPPO with a TCV of $800,000.
  • Applicable Fee: CPPO transactions have a 0.5% uplift on the standard private offer fee. For a TCV under $1 million, the standard fee is 3%, so the total fee is 3% + 0.5% = 3.5%.
  • Fee Calculation: $800,000 × 3.5% = $28,000.
  • Outcome: The seller pays AWS a fee of $28,000 for this CPPO transaction.

Scenario 5: Professional Services in a Private Offer

  • Service: Consulting services offered through a private offer.
  • Service Fee: $200,000.
  • Applicable Fee: Professional services in private offers incur a 2.5% listing fee.
  • Fee Calculation: $200,000 × 2.5% = $5,000.
  • Outcome: The seller pays AWS a fee of $5,000 for this professional services engagement.
